My process for creating visual art relies heavily on intuition, which to me is much like improvising on a musical instrument. I typically add and subtract layers of paint and markings until motifs and an overall form suggest themselves, sometimes using materials such as acid free tissue paper, pages from old books, and sheet music as media for my pieces.
